Solar panels have no moving parts, but a system still benefits from regular attention, because small faults can go unnoticed for a long time. Green Solar Solutions offers planned preventative maintenance, thermal imaging, fault-finding, inverter replacement and precision panel washing.
Planned preventative maintenance
A planned visit goes through the system as a whole: the panels and their mounting, the cabling, the isolators and connections, the inverter and its settings, and the monitoring. The aim is to find loose connections, damaged cables or a failing component before they cause a loss of output or a safety problem.
Preventive thermal imaging
A thermal camera shows differences in temperature across the panels and at connections. An overheating cell, a damaged panel or a poor connection can show as a hot spot while the system still seems to run normally. Checks are best made in good sunlight, when the system is producing.
Fault-finding
Signs of a fault include an inverter message that keeps returning, days with no output, a fall in production compared with the same month last year, or protective devices tripping. A fault is traced by working through the system in order, from the panels to the inverter to the consumer unit, until the cause is isolated.
Inverter replacement
The inverter often reaches the end of its life before the panels do. When one is replaced, the new unit has to suit the existing strings and, where there is one, the battery. The change is tested and commissioned like a new installation.
Panel cleaning
Rain does much of the work, but bird droppings, moss, leaves and dust can build up, especially on shallow roofs and under trees. Panels are washed with a method that does not damage the glass or the seals, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Climbing onto a roof to clean it is a work-at-height risk, and we do not recommend doing it yourself.
